The Sustainability of Bamboo Furniture

by admin on December 9, 2008

Asian décor is one of the most popular décor styles today, and nothing really sets off your Asian décor that some amazing bamboo furniture. Even if you’re not going for an Asian theme, bamboo furniture can fit in with any room or even work as patio furniture. The best thing about bamboo furniture is that it is very sustainable and can take a lot of abuse.

It should be noted that natural bamboo, while very flexible, isn’t that strong. Instead, the bamboo must be treated first. Once it’s treated, it becomes both very durable and very lightweight. This makes it idea for furniture since it can be picked up and moved around very easily. Once a chair or sofa is formed out of bamboo, all one needs to do is add a cushion and it becomes an exceptional piece of furniture.

Want an idea of just how strong treated bamboo is? Some construction companies actually use it to build their scaffolding. In fact, bamboo scaffolding is very stable and can be used to build incredibly tall buildings, including skyscrapers. But if you don’t need scaffolding, you can always invest in bamboo chairs, benches, tables, patio furniture, privacy screens, and even bamboo bed frames. While some of these items are a bit more expensive than those made from other materials, many are priced competitively, making bamboo furniture available for anyone.

Bamboo furniture can take a lot of damage, so if you’re worried about children jumping up and down and breaking bamboo furniture, don’t. The treated material can take quite a lot of abuse and will continue to look great for years.
