Feng Shui and Modern Furniture

If there was ever a pair that was meant for each other it is feng shui and modern furniture. The Chinese design philosophy was just made for modern furniture design. Here are some tips for incorporating them in your home.

Feng Shui (pronounced fung shway) emphasizes proper furniture arrangement to make a home more pleasant.

Simplicity is the key for both feng shui and modern furniture. In feng shui, furniture is centered around one focal point. Everything works out from that focal point, whether it is a fireplace, a painting or an entertainment center.

Likewise in modern furniture design, simple yet elegant designs are the ideal. Lines are sleek and uncluttered.

In feng shui philosophy the two most important rooms are the kitchen and the bedroom. There are ways to incorporate modern furniture in these rooms to enhance them. For example, in the bedroom, a sleek modern bed brings a feeling of peace and serenity. The bed should face the door so your feet face it when you get up. This promotes a feeling of control. In the kitchen, the clean lines of modern furniture eliminate a cluttered look and attract positive energy.

Here are some other feng shui tips to try:

  • Design in pairs to promote love. These include candlesticks and book ends

  • Allow open space in shelving units in order to allow love into your life

  • Make sure the bed is balanced: Use a pair of nightstands and position the bed so it has equal space on each side. This will keep the relationship balanced

Feng shui and modern furniture are all about keeping life simple and balanced. How can you incorporate them into your home?
