Clocks are in office, homes, and many other places including smaller ones on the wrist.  Ever since the invention of the mechanical clock in the 13th century clocks have taken on many forms, shapes, and sizes and the wall clock is the perfect accessory to add a modern touch to a traditional living or office space or to continue the modern theme in a contemporary living or office space.

George Nelson produced some of the twentieth century’s most highly regarded pieces of industrial furniture and many of our new line of wall clocks are based on his pioneering modern designs. His sometimes ferocious defense of the modernist principles and belief that the work of a designer should be to better the world attract us to wall clock designs based on his principals.

Philippe Starck is well known for taking on challenging projects and his Louis Ghost Chair is no exception. Starck is a French product designer that is not afraid to take on any challenge from designing hotel interiors, the private apartments of past French President’s, restaurant interiors, as well as consumer products like tooth brushes, an optical mouse for Microsoft, yachts and modern furniture.

My current favorite piece from Starck is the Louis Ghost Chair. Based on a Louis XV style chair with the recognizable medallion-shaped back and classic arms, the Ghost Chair is an instant contemporary furniture favorite with cult-like appeal. The chair is incredibly strong and sturdy despite being lightweight and can be used both indoors and outdoors.

The Ghost Chair is versatile and can be used as dining furniture, extra seating for a crowd, outdoor seating furniture, kids rooms, large event seating like weddings or conferences, and much more. Did you know that Mies van der Rohe only designed and built the Barcelona chair and the Barcelona table in the Barcelona family of modern furniture products? Luckily for us there is now a wide range of matching products. These include the Barcelona ottoman, loveseats, sofas, benches in several sizes and even dining chairs. The tufted cushions and stainless steel design make this a timeless classic. Designed in late 1920’s it is still relevant today nearly 90 years later.

Did you also know that the original frame was initially designed to be bolted together and used pigskin for the cushions? Today’s models use chrome steel or stainless steel which provides a seamless smooth appearance. Also, today’s models use cow leather instead of pigskin which is more supple, available in many different grades and colors, and is an all around better product.

While the Barcelona Chair, table, and family of modern furniture products has been around for nearly 90 years it has gone through significant iterations and improvements as well as accompanying ingenious new styles of tufted furniture that compliment the entire collection. Mies van der Rohe died in 1969 but if he were alive today I think he would be pleased that his limited foray into furniture has inspired entire generations in modern furniture design and his pieces are still incredibly relevant today.

Modern Living Room Furniture no longer looks like it used to.  In fact, some of today’s modern living room items would never have looked right in the more traditional setting.  This is because as styles change, people begin to look for more and more unique pieces of furniture.  Homes have very different styles now, and many are more open to different looks.

One of the most unique modern living room furniture pieces is the bean bag chair.  Yes, the bean bag chair is coming back into style.  It was quite popular years ago, but then it was more or less regulated to kid’s rooms.  However, huge, comfortable bean bag chairs have worked their way back into the modern living room furniture collection.  They provide a very comfortable and relaxing way of watching a movie or playing video games.  However, bean bag chairs do have a few drawbacks—they’re low to the ground and may not provide enough back support for some.

The lounger is another piece of modern living room furniture that looks very different from standard chairs.  Loungers are curved chairs that provide leg support.  Many almost look like the letter S on its side.  In a way, the lounger is an upgrade to those old lawn chairs that were long enough for people to stretch out on.  Loungers are great for reading, watching TV or even for napping, although you have to like sleeping on your back.  One of the great benefits of the lounger is that it provides support for your entire body.
